Hong'an County was originally named Huang'an County and was renamed in 1952 to commemorate the Huangma Uprising. It is the only county in China named with the character "Red."
Birthplace of the Huangma Uprising:
On November 13, 1927, the Huangma Uprising broke out in Qiliping, Hong'an. After the success of the uprising, this became the birthplace of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army Eastern Hubei Army.
Cradle of Generals:
Hong'an is the famous "Generals' County" with high reputation in Chinese history. From here emerged:
- 2 Presidents: Dong Biwu, Li Xiannian
- 223 Generals: including Han Xianchu, Qin Jiwei, Chen Xilian, Wang Jinshan
- 140,000 heroes sacrificed their lives for historical change
Historical Contribution:
Hong'an was the core area of the E-Yu-Wan Soviet Area and made tremendous contributions to China's historical development.
Historical Culture:
The "Honest, Brave, and Unyielding" Hong'an spirit is the precious spiritual wealth nurtured on this land.
Historical Sites:
Hong'an preserves numerous precious historical sites, including the Huangma Uprising Memorial Park, Qiliping Historical District, Dong Biwu Memorial Hall, and Li Xiannian Memorial Hall.
